For those of you who haven't been able to get to one of Slash's gigs and hear the AFD100 in the flesh, here's a little video we took when we met up with the man himself in sound check at Bataclan in Paris. Enjoy.

Rowbi

Posted 1 year ago by Rowbi The original video of Slash playing the 1st prototype was awesome. this was was a little lame. Slash played well, but the tone of the amp I'm sure sounded a lot better in person.

Not sure now whether I want to blow a grand (as I assume that's what it'll cost) on this amp now :-(

RFNR39

Posted 1 year ago by RFNR39 I'd assume it will cost upwards of $1,600.

Posted 1 year ago by riden21 i think it sounds very good but something is missing, it doesnt have that nice "liquid cruch" kinda thing you know, it feels "dry" lol hope that makes sense haha

chad-blackey

Posted 1 year ago by chad-blackey You wankers need to remember the other videos of this amp were recorded in a studio. If you dont think this amp sounds amazing at the 2:30 mark, than you should just keep your TSL or Peavey fuckin Bandit or whatever digitized POS you call an amp, and leave the real amps to those who can appreciate them. And good luck getting one new for less than $2000 US.

Rowbi

Posted 1 year ago by Rowbi lol, someone obviously gets a hard on a bit too easy... chill out man. I'm not doubting this amp is cool, but the tone of this vid wasn't as good... the studio recording was just the camera mic too! hopefully marshall can release some real mic recordings, and I'm sure we'll be all eating out hats... until then, I'll voice my honest opinion.

RFNR39

Posted 1 year ago by RFNR39 I agree with chad-blackey. I'd guess it will probably will go for around $2,200. However, i haven't heard any real studio recordings with the three mics santiago speaks of so how can anyone really know.

Posted 1 year ago by RFNR39 i'd bet slash could even make a peavy bandit or a TSL sound alright.

Posted 1 year ago by Xenious 1 @ 2:30 mark, Rock n Roll!

Here's a cool idea, maybe open up direct sales pre-orders and randomly pick a few to be autographed by Slash and/or Jim Marshall (or why not the whole group at Marshall building this gem). Talk about a prized amp!

when I said i thought it would cost a grand, I was talking £££. I'm in the UK, and most top of the line marshall heads are around £1000 give or take a bit.

I think it's pretty close. Thanks.

Posted 1 year ago by riden21 @RNFR39: what's wrong with TSL100s? put a 10 band eq in the loop and crank them, these bad boys scream!!!

Report

Rich_G

Posted 1 year ago by Rich_G @ RFNR39 Slash used a TSL100 for his MTV show in Australia recently so he must appreciate them. As riden21 says TSL's are good amps. I've had mine for 11 years and all three channels sound killer. So chill out and have some more respect for other people's opinions.

Posted 1 year ago by RFNR39 @riden21&Rich G: I didn't say anything was wrong with a TSL. I have a tsl in my studio and it's just fine. I was replying to chad -blackey's comment about a tsl and peavey bandit. I like my TSL.

Santiago

Posted 1 year ago by Santiago @ JayPee, it sounds quite close, yes. My only comment would be to check what it seems some kind of high frequency resonance, probably a layout issue or the way it is recorded. Otherwise it is cool ;-)

saulclaws

Posted 1 year ago by saulclaws I agree with some of you here, this time the amp didn't quite sound like we expected, in my opinion the jcm 800 that slash has sounds closer to the original # 39 or 36 (which ever it is).

Marker

Posted 1 year ago by Marker Sounds killer , I hard it live in Portugal| Btw , on the Mtv Austrália the TSL 100 where just to fill the stage , they didn't have guitarra plugged and stage on crunch channel. I have TSL,it's great.

jignow

Posted 1 year ago by jignow @Santiago - Amazing and sounds excellent. Camera, YT compression, and circumstances notwithstanding. I'm certainly in line for one! Those who are disappointed with the sound need to understand it's all about conditions/surroundings, method of recording (i.e. camera that was moving around alot, etc..), and so forth. Even with all that, the amp sounds stunning!

Happy Birthday Jim this month!!!!!!!!

JayPee

Posted 1 year ago by JayPee Hi Santiago. Thanks for the response. Does your take on the AFD sound include the .1uF over a 10K cathode? Or did you leave the .1uF out? Also, did you copy the 150K resistor on the volume pot from the #34 amp? Thanks.

Santiago

Posted 1 year ago by Santiago @ JayPee, Hi, as you understand I cannot fully discuss circutiry details but well, the current proto doesn't include bypass caps over those cathode resistors but that's still an open issue. Regarding the #34, yes, all the mods are included.

Report

JayPee

Posted 1 year ago by JayPee Hi Santiago. Thanks for the answer. Listening to the clip from Paris I assumed the bypass cap was missing. To me however that is what (largely) makes the AFD sound. I understand it might be to bright for some people's taste. Maybe you can add it via a switch? Call it the AFD hotswitch or something like that. Also make it foot switchable. That would be cool. Cheers, Justin.

Report

Santiago

Posted 1 year ago by Santiago Justin, yes, it is not an easy choice. Anyway, both Slash and myself preferred the tone without that cap. The recorded amp without cap sounds really close to the master tracks we got.

ptigodcho

Posted 1 year ago by ptigodcho I'm french and I was at the show at Le Bataclan, Paris, and I can tell you that the AFD was sounding great ! Now I'm not an expert and I can't tell you the difference with the other Marshall amps we can fell in the sound when hearing it .
Its price will probably be around 1500£, actually more than a Vintage Modern, the king of amp he was using until now.
