Posted 1 year ago by brickford Is this it? after all the wait this is it? not exactly a detailed video demonstration of the amp! i was expecting at least tem minutes of pure slash bliss playing non stop.
I think i prefer the nightrain song played on the #34 setting and the afd tone is.... weaker than i expected but i'l have to wait and hear it for my self when it arrives at my door...... by the way when will that be????????

MuzoBlog

Posted 1 year ago by MuzoBlog I still reckon a Firebird (or RD, even) through a JCM800 is the best Gibson/Marshall combination - see http://www.realgolgotha.com to see & hear me demo. Never been able to get anything but 'scratchy' out of a Les Paul/Marshall, but am willing to be persuaded. Good luck with the AFD100 launch. I do like the power-brake idea. Should be standard on all Marshall valve amps, IMHO.

SlaashGNR

Posted 1 year ago by SlaashGNR I still really believe that Slash should consider using reverb with this amp to get his old original tones from the Guns days! That is the only thing that is missing. The sweet child o mine tone is perfect! but it's dry . . . I'll definitely be using reverb on mine.

@chivato666: #34 is the moded JCM800 Slash has been recorded his albums since UYI (have u watched the video ??).
AFD channel is supposed to recreate the sound from album AFD.

SlaashGNR

Posted 1 year ago by SlaashGNR I expected at least a video showing Slash play "Welcome to the jungle", "Paradise city", "Sweet child O' mine" and "Nightrain" pretty much almost all the way through on the afd mode, and then "You could be mine" was played on his Mockingbird so that's not a true demo of the 34 mode. Songs like "Locomotive", "November rain" on his Goldtop and Garden of eden would've been good demos also.

Thanks for the quick response. ;-)

Report

SlaashGNR

Posted 1 year ago by SlaashGNR I think they will both be just as good to be honest. One just has a slight angle of the top two speakers . . . perhaps that might widen the sound range that the cab gives out . . . im not too sure . . . I think that Slash uses the av(top angled one) for his clean sounds and the bv(bottom straight one) for his dirty and lead sounds.

Report

SlaashGNR

Posted 1 year ago by SlaashGNR @brickford - it's an advance in technology . . . im pretty sure other companies will start doing this if not already done it. Santiago

Posted 1 year ago by Santiago @Cassp0nk, they are different. 6100s, DSLs, TSLs, SLXs, JVMs and maybe some others all have 4 gain stages but as you know, all sound different. It is like car engines, you can have a sporty V6 or a quite comfortable V6...

Report

Santiago

Posted 1 year ago by Santiago @SixxstringKing, yes, you can. Plug them in, select the bias current and run the bias procedure.
@v3rock, same as any tube amp. I'd say 2-3 min are more than enough. In any case you can always run the self biasing procedure as warmup and you will be having always a properly warmed up and biased amplifier to play. The procedure takes about 3min.

something I have read on countless sites

Posted 1 year ago by brickford @ Santiago thanks for confirming that this amp will retain the slash element that is really the all important thing.. as for the power scaling and auto bias i am supprised that marshall hasnt done this already and should put it on all of marshall range to put them ahead of the game.
keep up the work ..... and hurry up with getting my amp to my door already lol

Report

SlaashGNR

Posted 1 year ago by SlaashGNR I think more power will just give it a slightly more abrupt and aggressive tone. There will obviously be some difference but i don't think it would be easily noticeable to be honest. People at gigs don't really give a shit do they as long as the notes come out alright :D

Report

brickford

Posted 1 year ago by brickford @SlashGNR i would have thought that maybe the 60 watters would get to break up tone just a little sooner than the 70 watter with the 70 having more headroom over the 60 watter but then to acheive that with both speakers they would have to be maxed out ,, which unless you are slash in a stadium thats not going to happen on a regular basis lol

Report

SlaashGNR

Posted 1 year ago by SlaashGNR the power attenuator in this amp will help keep the best tone possible with whatever speakers . . . 60 watt or 70 watt, there will be hardly any difference what so ever. This amp will make even the shittest of guitarists sound better than they are!!!

Report

brickford

Posted 1 year ago by brickford @SlashGNR regarding that last sentence "this amp will make the shittest guitarist sound better than they are!!" errm i hope not... i get what you are trying to say ..but thats like saying a farrari will make the shittest driver drive better.... i like an amp that is articulate enough to show flaws and then makes you wanna play better with more accuracy to sound better.

Report

brickford

Posted 1 year ago by brickford @SlashGNR the power scaling get you the crank up tone but wont give you speaker break up nor that "moving air feel" break up is the final result of the whole tone and thats why i think that the AFD tone on this vid sounds a little weak as the speakers are not really as cranked as they should be.. when i see slash in other vids on you tube but with it cranked the tones really come out in full

Report

SlaashGNR

Posted 1 year ago by SlaashGNR @seb360 - the effect loop basically allows you to plug in effects pedals straight into the amp without having the tone of your guitar and amp together being tampered with and weakened . . . you should have an input and an output . . . the output goes to the input of the pedal and the output of the pedal goes to the input of the loop.

Report

SlaashGNR

Posted 1 year ago by SlaashGNR @ all - there's a guy on ebay who makes his own multi effects loops that are brilliant! he has 3 way, 5 way and 8 way boxes. brickford

Posted 1 year ago by brickford @seb360 the effects loop is a quick way of adding time based effects to your tones such as chorus delay etc etc or adding a rack mount based effect units to effect your tones. There are general rules of thumbs as to which effects you can use in the effects loop (such as the above mention effects) other effects like tube screamers and wah wahs etc etc are to go in front of the amp.

Report

SlaashGNR

Posted 1 year ago by SlaashGNR @brickford - can you not plug a wah wah into the effect loop?

Report

brickford

Posted 1 year ago by brickford @seb360 .The auto bias is there to bais your power tubes to correct voltage/plate load or what ever the term is! this will enable you to change to different power tubes with out having to take it to a amp tech to set the bais accuratly to which ever tubes you want, something that you would need to do if you wanted to change tubes in your tsl

Report

brickford

Posted 1 year ago by brickford @SlashGNR well you can plug what ever you want in to the loop but general rule of thumb and tone wise a wah wah sounds better before the amp and not in the loop

RicMoura

Posted 1 year ago by RicMoura @SlaashGNR the goltop was a guitar Slash got back in 1991. He used from that point on live, mostly because of the smooth and sweet sound you can get from it with the neck pickup and the tone in 0. He used mostly for songs like estranged, knocking on Heavens door, november rain, don't cry... This was the only guitar that he lost (or it was stolen) amd couldn't get it back.

Report

RicMoura

Posted 1 year ago by RicMoura @SlaashGNR Slash really loved that guitar, so he asked Gibson to make a reissue of that guitar (with his signature), and so they did.
Slash said that the only song that he actually recorded intirely with this guitar was the one with Ozzy, Crucify the dead. It's mostly a live guitar.
Cheers

Posted 1 year ago by seb360 Really guys, if you think about it, the only way to get Slash's exact sound is if you had a good $60,000 . If you go around adding up everything he's got(guitars, pedals, stuff on his rack, amp heads, cabinets ect.) that is around what it'll add up to. So unless you have a lot of extra cash lying around, you get the point.

Report

brickford

Posted 1 year ago by brickford @SlashGNR you will get near enough the same tones out of a stand alone slash wah but you wont get the conveiniant use of the rack mount wah, it really cuts down on the cabling and is more direct and you can have multiple pedals rather than just one and there are more tones to be gotten out of the dcr 2sr wah unit than slash sig wah pedal...

Report

SlaashGNR

Posted 1 year ago by SlaashGNR Is the rack mount wah just a unit that is connected to the actual pedal? . . . I have noticed that when using my sig wah, it ealy screams at the top end, and at the low end the sound really goes muffled an extremely bassy. Sounds nothing like the wah sounds you hear on records . . . Does the rackmount wah help with this problem?

Report

brickford

Posted 1 year ago by brickford the dcr 2sr is the wah unit itself the pedal is just the expresser part of it , the dcr 2sr is easily more tone shape-able can also have a nother pedal expresser to be used for volume etc , its a complex bit of kit and if you only want slash tones then the sig is more than enough. where do you place the sig wah that you have in your chain?

Report

SlaashGNR

the amps go through a palmer speakersimulator (not exactly specified, but probably not to hard to find out)

It seems that the Palmers go to the FOH,.. and the 1960AVs are for monitoring only..

Tava5150

For clean I will probably just have an mxr stereo chorus for songs like paradise city

Report

brickford

Posted 1 year ago by brickford @slashGNR .. my only reservation about effects loops is that its pre-power stage! and that is the killer if you need to distort your power tubes for that power crunch as it will affect your tone when you add rv-5 and dd-3 etc the smart gate and line booster should be fine ...

This is becuse you should not have long speaker cables...
