Blog » Production Run Confirmed

We've received so many questions over the past few months asking whether the AFD100 is going to be a Limited Edition amplifier. We've taken a great deal of care and attention at deciding on a definite run and we are excited to now be able to announce the confirmed planned quantities! The AFD100 will indeed be a Limited Edition of 2300 units worldwide and will include a selection of AFD accessories. There will also be an exclusive Special Collectors Edition of 100 units which will also be supplied with its very own unique extras!

Posted 1 year ago by sprakey very excited, seems like i have been following this for years and its so close now I can taste it. It would be realy cool if when this was released it came with a booklet that detailed slashs settings for each song on the AFD album to recreate the original tones and detailing any extra affects he may have used.
Thanks for all your hard work guys, this amp is going to be legend.

Posted 1 year ago by Fuser @Xenious - Hurting wallet - that was exactly my thought on the 'Limited Edition' news. Why Marshall, why? Surely you want to let as many people who want one of these actually pay you for it - otherwise they will just be changing hands on fleabay.....
The 'Special' edition I can understand - but limiting it further than that I don't agree with..

Posted 1 year ago by Marker 2300 only?? That's even less than the JCM Slash edition (3000)... why?!? I think Slash/The Appetite tone deserve a long term production Marshall. I hope I can buy one at a realistic price... I don't understand the point of limiting this production.

Posted 1 year ago by hardblues That's just great! so much fuzz, news and blogs about an amp (which is a killer amp) and then almost no one will be able to buy it because it will be sold out when we arrive at the store!
what was the point? in my humble opinion the AFD should be out there to be bought, to allow musicians to make history again, and even a reissue of the first slash amp should be put out someday in a near future!

Report

hardblues

Posted 1 year ago by hardblues probably what will happen is that some guys will get rich reselling AFD in ebay and ebay will bankrupt giving the sell money to the buyer who was deceive in a fake sell

bob453

Posted 1 year ago by bob453 My concern is that of many here, that low numbers will taker a high price and drive it even higher, out of range of people who are likely to use it heavily because it is there primary amp, to one that will grace the shelves of collectors and a small number of well-heeled musician's. What a shame that something that is built TO BE HEARD will be experienced by relatively few.

Xenious

Posted 1 year ago by Xenious I thought 2300 seemed like quite a large run for what I bet will be a $2k head. My Orange OR50 is from a ltd. run of 400 units of which the US only saw about half. You can still sometimes find one new in a store and they were made in 2008. In fact I walked into a store in 2009 and bought mine off the floor.

Its gonna sell out right away, then the price will SKYROCKET on the used market... please reconsider your decision to make this a limited run.

riden21

Posted 1 year ago by riden21 i think they made it a limited run because it's to expensive and complicated for them to produce, anyway i think that this amp should be made in a larger scale, just imagine millions of players out there that will run to the shops to order it weeks before it will even be available!!! normal people with normal jobs won't even get a chance!!! :-( so sad right now :-(

Posted 1 year ago by tom_luciano With all due respect Marshall, i belive this was not a wise choice, the limited run will run out soon and it is going to be exacley the same thing as the Jubilee, the prices will be high as the moon. What is the point of making a limited run anyways?.Also if you make a larger run you get better profits in my point of view, so i please ask you to reconsider your decision.

Steadytone

Spidey

Posted 1 year ago by Spidey I would guess that the guys at Marshall probably spoke to their distributors to take orders and then based the production run on those orders. Perhaps Slash didn't want it to be an ongoing model for some reason.
Actually I thought 2300 was an ok number. Either way I'm going to try and order one!

Posted 1 year ago by sixpakldp Buy a Metroamp kit and make your own. There is enough info on their message board, some of which is from Tim Caswell himself to do so. Might not be this exact amp you will get, however there are people out there who have nailed the AFD tone pretty convincingly.

DavidVee

Posted 1 year ago by DavidVee 2300 units for the AFD100 seems like a low number without any point of reference. I'd be interested to know standard run vs limited edition run production numbers. For example, how many DSL50 vs Silver Jubilee amps were produced? I hope this doesn't end up being the next great Marshall we all read about, but never even get to see one, much less own one.

Report

vidoz

Posted 1 year ago by vidoz I am very DISAPPOINTED!!
I can not get the point of making a limited run. This, does not really make sense!
Only collectors and richest people will manage to buy it. 2300 units is less than the Silver Jubilee edition (3000)!
Please, reconsider your decision: do not limit this edition or, at least, make a larger run (2300 is way too limited!).
You will get the chance to make more money.

Many marketing on Marshall creating expectation when Slash has always used 1959 head modified with SIR#39 to record everything.

FigJam

Posted 1 year ago by FigJam Why not make this like the MA series and make it as cheap as possible as an entry level or just a smidgen above entry level. That way plenty will walk out the door and chances are a greater percentage will survive the ravages of time as this amp should. Please don't put this amp out of the price range of the people who from day one supported this project and dared to dream of owning one.

Report

riden21

Posted 1 year ago by riden21 @figjam: if they make it cheap as the MA, than they'll have to use lower quality components and the tone will suck, didnt you think of that?

i think that they should make a way larger production and keep the price around 2,5 grand. . . that would be awesome!!

tonymckenzie

With a great opportunity to actually produce a Marshall amp the way it should be (as opposed to JVM410h) is there is anyone at home at Marshall. Why not just make this amp generally available, and also have the limited edition with all the accessories? A no brainer which Jim probably has had no say in.

WHy biother putting in all that effort and creating all the buzz... then limit it to so few...

adrien

Posted 1 year ago by adrien I like how everyone starts bitching about the limited number although no one has any idea of Marshall sale figures. Only 3000 units of the 2555SL were produced back then, 15 years later they're still pretty easy to find and affordable.

Report

PuroMojo

Posted 1 year ago by PuroMojo @ adrien I have the same impression as you. You can still find a 2555SL for a good price even if it was a limited run. From this side I believe it will not be hard to get one AFD100. But, on the other side, there's much more buzz around Slash now than on 1996 and this may change things a little bit... They should put 5000 and not less than 3000 in my opinion.

But, if you found many of them, even at an affordable price, tell me where, please!

Report

vidoz

Posted 1 year ago by vidoz No offense, but it seems to me that you are underestimating the situation: consider that 700 (700!!) units less than the 2555SL is a huge number. So, if the 2555SL is hard to find, try to imagine what will happen with the AFD (not only a legendary amp but even the most advertised amp ever producted)!

Report

goldtopLP

Posted 1 year ago by goldtopLP Slash is all about the money! If he really wanted to do this for the fans, he would of considered all of them and insisted on no Limited Editions! I used to think that Gibson was the ones who wanted Limited Editions. Then I thought, why would they? The more they sell, the more money they make. Now I know it's Slash. He would rather make his Sig. items sought after and expensive.

Report

goldtopLP

Posted 1 year ago by goldtopLP Think about it, this website, along with Slash's new Les Pauls & Pick-ups, was nothing but a publicity stunt to get a buzz going about Slash's name, for his new album & to help resurrect his career. None of these companies were ever planning on making any of these products a stay. He used them to get the buzz going and they used his name to make some QUICK cash. It's all about the money.
