it sounds so authentic, it is really amazing how you managed it to revive this amp! it is way more better than the recording with this JCM800 you blogged some time ago.

Posted 1 year ago by gary27925 a good job on the amp guys but I don't think it's all that much better than any other head. I can't aford one let alone a jcm800 or what-ever. The whole thing will be how it sounds with every-one else and the way they play.

Rich_G

Posted 1 year ago by Rich_G That sounds pretty accurate. I noticed Slash used Derrig LP to test the amp. The other night I was lucky enough to borrow a Chris Derrig Les Paul and was absolutely shocked at how poor it made my Gibson LP Standard sound in comparison. Do you guys have any footage of Slash playing one of his Gibson's through the amp? Cheers, Rich

Posted 1 year ago by buzzdee Nice, like Motorjesus :-) ...cant wait to play this amp!!!! Greetings to Slash and Santiago from germany!

Report

pjlmtg

Posted 1 year ago by pjlmtg It was not his Derrig. It was the Slash VOS Appetite Model as you can see him pull it out of the case in the beginning of the video. Derrig never leaves the studio/house. Recording only

Marshall39

Posted 1 year ago by Marshall39 @Santiago: how it was recorded?? sounds great but according to this clip it has too much highs, its lacking mids and, above all, lacks smooth gainy overall sound, however its not far its 90% there, keep goin'on

Santiago

Posted 1 year ago by Santiago Hi, what you are hearing is the camera recording. You can even hear the guitar strings... We have the recordings with 3 microphones and it sounds much more close to the original. You also can see how happy Slash looks in the viedo ;-)

Posted 1 year ago by graffitibuddhist @Samtiago What is the next stage....... a Final product, or a second prototype with aesthetics and features? Do you intend to post a series of videos for the Prorotype I........... I am really excited and glad to know you guys are aswell!!!

Report

Santiago

Posted 1 year ago by Santiago Hi, next step will be a fully functional cosmetically correct amp, as close as the production item as we can. We are already working on that.

graffitibuddhist

Posted 1 year ago by graffitibuddhist Cheers Santiago!!!!!(It is awesome that you answer our questions!!) So the next update or video will be in a couple of weeks, featuring the near-final product :-D????

Posted 1 year ago by funkenstein Santiago, This is pretty exciting stuff!! I have two questions for you. First up, can you please post the clips you refer to above (recorded with 3 mics) so we can hear the amp in a pro-recorded track? Second, were there no further tweaks to the circuit based on your meeting with Slash, or did you guys nail it with the first prototype? If so, kudos to you and your team!

Report

Rich_G

Posted 1 year ago by Rich_G @ pjlmtg you are wrong. Slash is not playing a VOS; he's playing his Derrig (or an AFD LP). It would be the obvious thing to do to play the original guitar to get the most accurate comparison. As I said before, I'd be interested to hear another guitar through the amp...

Cheers :)

effenberg

Posted 1 year ago by effenberg Hey Santiago, Slash didn't asked for any modifications on the sound of this prototype?

Report

Santiago

Posted 1 year ago by Santiago @funkenstein, we'll see what we can do regarding the high quality audio. We need some authorisations to post those. As briefly said in the previous blog entry, Slash asked for a minor mod regarding the overall response but we all are very happy with the 1st approach, definitely almost there.

Santiago

Posted 1 year ago by Santiago @graffitibuddhist, well, it will take a bit longer than 2 weeks but we'll keep the progress updated.
@chad-blackey, yes, Vintage 30s.
@effenberg, yes, some minor stuff. Please check the previous blog entry on the 24th of May.

Could anybody explain the 34/39 switch. Really don't understand it at all, would appretiate if someone could explain what it is, what it does and how it affects the sound.

Thanks

Rhythm

Posted 1 year ago by Rhythm To Hasic: first of all thx for your answer.. 34 and 39 are two modded models of Marshall 1959's im not sure wich one but one is the one that Slash recorded thealbum but i know that another one is also played in that era.. They have different modifications on them that based on same principle.. I think the difference will be like the difference between is that: one of them will be more boosted..

Report

Rhythm

Posted 1 year ago by Rhythm Another point Late 2010 isn't so clear :P it could be September or November maybe December.. Isn't there more exact date ? :)

Report

stoof

Posted 1 year ago by stoof @Hasic: #34 is the mod brought to Slash's JCM800, the one we can see in the AFD100 first videos. Slash has recorded UYI with it.
#39 is the mod Tim Caswell made on a JMP 59' Tremolo... but Slash has recorded AFD with #36 with is the same mod than #39, but on a Superlead 59.

Rhythm

Posted 1 year ago by Rhythm @ santiago, as we all know slash loves to use reverb if you wont put an accutronix reverb to this amp people will have to use crap digital reverbs so please just like othe marshalls put a reverb in that amp.. we all know that marshall reverbs are so good.. so if this is an afd this should give the tone of sweet child o mine too :) thx..

Report

Santiago

Posted 1 year ago by Santiago @Marshall39, the amp was played in the 39 mode, AFD tone.
@Rhythm, We won't put reverb in this amp, in fact Slash doesn't want it nor use it. Perhaps they add it in the production but not in the amps (and digital for sure). In any case you can use any reverb you want through the FX loop.

Marker

Posted 1 year ago by Marker @Santiago, did Slash mentioned anything about the Jubilee? I know that he's running out of Jubilee's, they're very worn out. Is it a concern for Slash? Will AFD100 be available in a combo version?

Thanks!

Report

graffitibuddhist

Posted 1 year ago by graffitibuddhist @Marker, lol I think that is a completely different project all together!! It would be kinda cool though..... @Santiago.... maybe a UYI 100 if AFD100 is successful..... also is "34" the JCM800 slash used at the ritz, and live after the "36 "was taken away, until UYI?

Report

graffitibuddhist

Posted 1 year ago by graffitibuddhist Why does everyone want a combo amp.. there is variable wattage on the head....and Slash is a head guy! Glad there is no reverb :-)!!!!

Report

pjlmtg

Posted 1 year ago by pjlmtg A lot of guys play clubs and smaller venues where on stage real estate is an issue, so a Combo version would be welcomed by a lot of guys who want the half/full stack sound in compact version!!

Report

pjlmtg

Posted 1 year ago by pjlmtg @Rich_G That is undeniably, undisputedly, beyond any shadow of a doubt, his AFD VOS Model Serial #117... @Santiago can confirm that as well.

Report

omnomnom

Posted 1 year ago by omnomnom Santiago, I know this has been asked, but will we see a Combo version of this amp?

Report

Rich_G

Posted 1 year ago by Rich_G @pjlmtg Sorry I interpreted the VOS to be the signature model of his '88 les paul and not his AFD sig model. Bearing in mind the AFD sig model is an exact replica of his derrig, I wouldn't mind hearing the amp played through a LP Standard which have a lower output. I think I'm gonna buy an AFD100 when it comes out anyway...

Report

stoof

Posted 1 year ago by stoof @graffitibuddhist : This new amp is actually considering the UYI tone... Slash has recorded UYI with his JCM800 (#34 mod).
AFD100 has the #34 / #39 switch, meaning you could switch from the AFDP tone and UYI Tone.
But do not forget that the guitar sound on UYI is over-produced and doesn't really show how the amp is sounding.

Report

graffitibuddhist

Posted 1 year ago by graffitibuddhist @stoof: Cheers, I knew about the 34 switch, the JCM800 he used at the ritz in '88, and 36/39 were JMP 1959 marshall mods. Although I though slash used a Marshall Silver Jubilee 25/55 on UYI... LOL, I agree, the sound of the guitars sounded shitty on UYI compared to AFD......we have Axl to thank for this. Although Estranged was very good. :P

farhaan83

Posted 1 year ago by farhaan83 Hey i was wondering if anyone knew how the clean channel would be in this amp, any good and would it be switchable to easily get lead and clean sounds on the go?

Report

Santiago

Posted 1 year ago by Santiago Hi, Slash was using Gibsons. I am not sure at all as honestly I didn't ask him, but I think those were prototypes of his Gibson signature guitars although I am probably completely wrong. He wasn't too concerned about the particular guitar as he was listening to the tone qualities and the way he remembered the amp.

Report

Santiago

Posted 1 year ago by Santiago we also talked a bit about the Jubilees, he is aware that many people are after those since he uses them. I think he uses those amps as workhorses but recording wise he has been using his modded 800 for all the last records.

Report

Santiago

Posted 1 year ago by Santiago There won't be an AFD100 combo, AFD100 will be a single channell head (no clean channel) as per Slash's requirements. Let's see what future brings regarding some other models in the series, door is open ;-). Any suggestions??

gnrlew

Posted 1 year ago by gnrlew when will this be on sale and how much would it be roughly at a guess by the way love the work slash and santiago

Report

farhaan83

Posted 1 year ago by farhaan83 Since there is no clean channel do a reissue of the silver jubilees, so we can get the full sound that slash uses, that would be a good model to add because many people are after those amps, myself included :D

Thank you for replying! And I would suggest a recreation of the UYI era amp, as has already been suggested.

Report

Rich_G

Posted 1 year ago by Rich_G @Santiago. I'd like to see a 2-channel version of an AFD100 with shared eq & reverb but separate master volume and gain (the same as the JCM900 with 0-10 & 10-20) This would only add 3 dials to the front panel. Throw in a solo boost function and keep the 34-39 switch and you'd have one absolutely killer (yet versatile) amp...

Report

Rich_G

Posted 1 year ago by Rich_G @Santiago. Not sure whether Slash would be keen on the idea but it might be an idea to make a version of the AFD100 for young kids to get them off guitar hero and playing proper guitar! I was thinking along the lines of a solid-state practice amp 10/15 watts which is affordable for parents to buy for their kids...

Report

goldtopLP

Posted 1 year ago by goldtopLP Why would anyone want a 10/15 watt solid state amp to practice with, when you can get a 5 watt all tube amp? Tube amps sound so much better. As far as wattage goes, keep in mind that the only difference between a 50 watt amp and a 100 watt amp is 3 dB in overall loudness.
