So we boarded the Eurostar and headed off to France the other Sunday (20th) with AFD100 prototype in hand and met up with Slash and his tech Chet at Bataclan in Paris. As mentioned before, we had made a few tweaks since initially showing the AFD to Slash in LA, so we were really excited to see (and hear) Slash test it out at such a great venue.
On arrival, Chet put the prototype straight into Slash's rack and dialled in the same settings as those used on his JCM800. Chet then played through it and instantly fell in love with it, as did the FOH guys! Slash came out on stage shortly before sound check and made a few control adjustments before trying it out himself. Slash absolutely loved it and continued to use throughout sound check which then lead on to him using it for his entire show! In fact, he loved it so much that he wouldn't let us have it back! He's now taken it with him on the rest of his tour around Europe until he heads back to the UK in a few weeks.
We received an email from the man himself after his gig at Bataclan saying, "It sounded fantastic for the show! I don't know if I can go back now. Santiago did a bang up job, it really is a brilliant effort!"
With a comment like that from Slash we are ecstatic that we've achieved what we set out to right at the beginning of this project back in January. Plus if Slash likes it, we reckon you guys will too!

Posted 2 months ago by sam8404 First. And does that mean he won't have it in the U.K. I was thinking about going to see him and it would make it so much better if he used the amp.

The production model will be exactly the same for all the technical specs or there will be some minor modification ? Do you know when it will be sold ? I was at Bataclan ! Slash's sound was great… Congrutalions !

Posted 2 months ago by tonymckenzie I wonder if this thing is going to be high priced? I always wonder about that when a 'celebrity' is so involved. Lets face it, this is a clone of the one on the record, and if Marshall can't replicate that sound no one can. But if it ends up being way over the odds then that would be a shame. After all, it's just tube technology.

@goerge4, as long as our Canadian distributor carries it (which I am sure they will) it will be available over there. The draw... hmmm... erm...

Posted 2 months ago by Santiago @Miclev, thanks for the compliments. The production amp will have exactly the same circuitry as Slash's first prototype. The only change will be the way it is built. We want to be able to sell it by the end of 2010, I cannot be more precise now but as soon as we know more we will announce it of course

@tonymckenzie. I am not involved on pricing but I'd assume it should be in the line of other full tube UK made amplifiers from Marshall.

I HATE limited runs ... especially on amps like this ... you will sell these like hot cakes! I want one, but I fear you guys will do me out of one by selling a limited quantity that tons of people will buy before me!!! lol

Great to see the amp taking shape and to hear it (damn those lucky few that have heard it live!!). But tell me, in the design phase you talked a lot about a boost and a rotary attenuator. Footswitches aside, i can't see anything relevant in the pics, so can you confirm if these will make the production model???

Posted 2 months ago by Santiago Hi, I'm not the right person dealing with these matters but seems that the AFD100 will be finally a limited run. I'm sure that numbers won't be small and that the family won't end here ;-)
@vintage30, Slash uses vintage 30 speakers but of course you can use any speaker you prefer.

Posted 2 months ago by Santiago @Stuart, the production amp will have the power attenuator but not the booster. The booster has been replaced with the 34/39 switch which we consider is more interesting as those are Slash's favourite amps.

Posted 2 months ago by RicMoura Hi @Santiago, it would be so cool if, when selling the AFD100, you put toghether something (instructions) with the amp settings that Slash thinks it's the most similar to what he used to record Appetite For Destruction, as well as settings to the #34. (Similar to what happened when you were selling the JCM Slash). Do you think you could do that?

@ tom_luciano. We don't have a pricing yet... hopefully it won't be too long from now until we are able to calculate and publish it.
